'Cluelessness is Easier to Get Off To' Original Framed Painting
'Cluelessness is Easier to Get Off To' Original Framed Painting
'Cluelessness is Easier to Get Off To' is one of five original paintings from the 'Pretty Words, Ugly Truths' collection, inspired by the song Above the Neck by Sofia Isella.
'Cluelessness is Easier to Get Off To' explores sexualisation of women's bodies and how youthfulness is considered highly attractive. Rather than focusing on the negatives of these themes, this painting shows the figure rejecting oppression. The bright colour palette mixed with the somewhat vulgar imagery gives the painting energy and passion for the themes, with abstract elements of brushstrokes, oil pastels and spatter giving the painting action.
'Pretty Words, Ugly Truths' explores the idea of translating songs about the female experience into visual artwork and is the first project by Darci Lauren that incorporates essay writing (see the 'Pretty Words, Ugly Truths' zine for more info). The collection of artworks has had two exhibitions - a two month solo show at Gaumont Coffee in Worcester, UK as well as a group show for emerging artists called 'Beyond the Studio', supported by the Worcester Arts Collective.
