'Pretty Words, Ugly Truths' Zine
'Pretty Words, Ugly Truths’ is a passion project by visual artist and painter Darci Lauren. Born from a love for essay writing along with a fascination with translating the female experience into paintings, this essay-style zine consists of analysis of lyrics regarding the female experience from five chosen songs, considering how they can be translated into visual artwork, along with high quality images of the five painted responses that were inspired by this analysis.
'Pretty Words, Ugly Truths' is the first project by Darci Lauren that incorporates essay writing but is unlikely to be the last. The collection of artworks has had two exhibitions - a two month solo show at Gaumont Coffee in Worcester, UK as well as a group show for emerging artists called 'Beyond the Studio', supported by the Worcester Arts Collective.
